SSOFB - Web Development with Open Source in Aberdeen, Scotland

We're delighted to launch a new project, Street Art Aberdeen which is launching today.  While we work on many projects, they are nearly all for 3rd parties, and so cannot really discus the projects.  This project, however, in entirely developed by us for no commercial contract.

The Project

We have always had an interest in Street Art, and in the last few years there has been more focus on it in our home town of Aberdeen, partly due to the Nuart festival that has been running for a few years now.  However, in addition to the Nuart pieces, there are many more great artworks around the city.  The website, at streetartaberdeen.org aims to help people explore and find street art, and also to document what can be quite a transitory art form.

The System

We are delighted to make this the first new Joomla 4 based website we've launched. Joomla is an award winning Open Source CMS, and version 4, released in August 2021 was in development for a couple of years.

Some notable features:

  • It uses a custom template based on Cassiopeia
  • The design is designed to be feature-first, with a clean, elegant and functional approach.
  • It doesn't use 3rd party extensions, using core as much as possible.
  • We created a couple of field type plug-ins, for images and location.
  • It utilises the new scheduled task system introduced in Joomla 4.0 and 4.1
